Welcome to a new year dear friend. We have been looking at the life of Jesus as a young person and by the grace of God we are picking many things from His life. Today we are looking at Luke 2:52

Luke 2:52
“And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”

Today I want us to look at the first virtue listed here, wisdom.
Wisdom is a virtue every young person needs if he or she can live an effective life. Wisdom can be accessed through a number of ways. First of all to have wisdom, you must fear God.

Job 28:28
“And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”

The fear of the Lord is what brings wisdom. The Bible is also clear as to what exactly is the fear of the Lord.

Proverbs 8:13
“The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the perverse mouth, do I hate.”

So from these two scriptures we see that if you want to grow in wisdom you must hate evil.
The second way to access wisdom is to study the Word of God.

2 Timothy 3:15
“And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

If you know the scriptures you are on your way to wisdom. But knowing the scriptures is not enough. You must also apply them. Jesus gave us the secret. He said if you hear His words and do them He will liken you to a wise builder.

Matthew 7:24
“Therefore whosoever hears these sayings (o. logos) of mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:”

Note that its not he who hears but he who hears and does them.

The third way to access the wisdom of God is to ask for it.

James 1:5
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and reproaches not; and it shall be given him.”

So we have seen how to access the Wisdom of God. Jesus grew in wisdom because of these three things and we too can and must grow in wisdom. I will continue next week by letting you know the importance of growing in wisdom. Blessings
