CENTRAL TEXT: HEBREWS 1:4
INTRODUCTION:
In our previous lesson, we saw that Christ is the very essence of God. We saw that Christ is the only language the Father speaks and that He is all in all. This lesson takes a look at the superiority of Christ over the angels. We examine how His name is more excellent than the angels.
VS 4: …. having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. (NKJV)
A.    The name Jesus means God is Salvation (Mt 1:21). It was a common name in Bible times. The name was chosen by God and delivered by the angel. The name was anointed.
B.     The name of Jesus is the only name given by which man can obtain salvation (Acts 4:12).
C.     The name Jesus is the only name that is recognized in all the three divisions of the universe (Heaven, Earth, under the earth) (Phil 2:10).
·         The early disciples caught a revelation of the name of Jesus so they did everything in that name.
1.      They…………in the name of Jesus (Acts 4:2, 18).
2.      They …………in the name (Acts 2:38, Acts 8:16, Acts 19:5).
3.      They ……………….in the name (1Cor 5:4).
·         The name is still relevant to our times.
4.      What are some of the things we can do in His name if we believe? (Mark 16:17-18)
·         The Right to use His name
5.      Who are those who qualify to use His name? (John 1:12).
6.      We have the right to ………………….in the name (John 16:23).
7.      We have to right to demand something in the name (John 14:14).
·         Here we must distinguish between praying to the Father and commanding the devil. Both are done in the name of Jesus.
8.      The Phrase ‘In the Name of Jesus’ simply means “As a representative of Jesus”. Therefore, we cannot use the name if we don’t know Him (Acts 19:14-16).
Conclusion: The name of Jesus is higher than any angel ever created. Therefore, the writer wanted to convince the Hebrew Christians that the new covenant which was initiated by Christ was superior to the old covenant which was initiated by angels.
Memory Verse

Colossians 3:17: And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him (NKJV).
