The Believer’s Spiritual Ecosystem

By the grace of God, we have finished looking at the character system of the believer. Today we are looking at the connecting systems of the believer.

Today’s teaching takes a look at the ecosystem of relationships the believer is involved in; that  is, his relationship with God and fellow believers.

An ecosystem is a complex network of interconnected systems.

God created man for Himself. That is why He made us in His image. So the first relationship God gave man was the one between Himself and man. This was to be the foundation of all manner of relationships that were to follow. The relationship between God and man was fulfilling and vital for man’s very existing. God used to visit man every morning for fellowship (Gen 3:8, Job 7:18)
Despite the fulfilling and vital relationship between God and man, God said that it was not good for man to be alone.

 Genesis 2:18
“And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an associated helper for him.”

We all know that here God was talking about marriage. But it was also a statement to show that man doesn’t only need God. Man needs fellow human beings.

There are some things man can get from God. There are other things man can never get from God but fellow man.

Therefore for man to live effectively, he must maintain and service both his relationship with God and with other human beings.

The Bible talks about the relationship a believer has personally with God and the relationship he has with the church, which is made up of other believers.

The analogy that is used to explain the believer’s ecosystem is the human body.
The Lord is described as the Head of the Body (Eph 4:15), while the church is collectively described as the body (Eph 1:22-23).

The believer is placed in the body as a part and he maintains a connection with both the Head and the body at the same time.

Therefore the Church is a system that brings the Head and the Body together. The believer must maintain the vital connection to both the Head and the Body to be effective as a Christian.
Any believer who is not rightly aligned with the Body has a deficiency regardless of how much he claims to be connected to the Head.

Also, if a person is truly connected to the Head, he will also be connected to the Body.
As a matter of fact, the state of our connection to the body will affect our connection to the Head. That is why when we fail to forgive our fellow believers, our prayers are affected and our offerings are rejected(Mt 5:23).

1 John 4:20
“If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?”

The above caption was taken from the scripture below and it captures the mind of God concerning this ecosystem of relationships

Judges 7:18
“When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow all of you the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.”

It is obvious that God respects the ecosystem of relationship and He will not violate it. He and Gideon fought together. It wasn’t only the sword of the Lord but also of Gideon. God has always enjoyed this divine human partnership and He respects it.

Its amazing how you can go to God for something and He will direct you to a man. He shared His authority with man by giving him dominion over this earth to the extent that even if He the owner of the earth wants to do something here, He needs the cooperation of man.

Anybody who claims to relate only with God and not with the church is seriously deficient and even dangerous. God doesn’t bypass this arrangement.

Cornelius was asked to send for Peter to come and preach to him. Why couldn’t the Angel preach to him(Acts 11:13-14).

Paul encountered Jesus( the baptizer with the Holy Spirit) on the Damascus road and yet it was a man called Ananias who was sent to pray for him to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 9:17
“And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto you in the way as you came, has sent me, that you might receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

When God wants to release blessings to us because of our giving, He uses man.

Luke 6:38
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall MEN give into your bosom. For with the same measure that all of you mete likewise it shall be measured to you again.”

i. You are deceived if you claim that you are in a relationship with God but you are not in alignment with the Church.

ii. You are dangerous if you have a relationship with God but you are not submitted to any local Church.

iii. You are deceived if you think you hear the voice of God so you won’t listen to the counsel of the Church.

Moses was a mighty man of God and yet it was Jethro who counselled him to appoint leaders and delegate certain matters to them. Why didn’t God Himself tell Moses?

Why didn’t God speak to Eli himself but chose to speak through Samuel.

We must have a strong, consistent relationship with God. But we must also have a strong consistent relationship with the Church otherwise we will be seriously deficient and lop sided in our spiritual development.

It must be the sword of the Lord and of Gideon. Blessings
