Last week we looked at how a man prepares for marriage. This week we turn our attention to how a woman prepares for marriage. A lot goes into preparing for a lifetime relationship like marriage.

I want us to look at something in the book of Esther.

Esther 2:12
Each young woman’s turn came to go in to King Ahasuerus after she had completed twelve months’ preparation, according to the regulations for the women, for thus were the days of their preparation apportioned: Six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes and preparations for beautifying women(NKJV)

Wow! All this just for one night with the king? This even buttresses the point that the preparation of the woman is more detailed than that of the man. It is therefore sad that these days ladies jump into marriage with little or no preparation at all.

There are a lot of things we can learn from the story of Esther. They used Myrh for six months and used other perfumes and spices for another six months. This gives us a clue that a lot should go into the preparation before you meet your king. I am going to suggest that you apply the ingredients of the anointing oil in the Bible to yourself as part of preparations. To apply them simply means to pray them into your life.

Psalm 144:12
That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; That our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace(NKJV)

Here, the Bible suggests that women should be polished. Lets look at the ingredients of the anointing oil and what they stand for so that we can know some of the prayers you can pray into your life as a woman.

Exodus 30:22-25
Moreover the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Also take for yourself quality spices-five hundred shekels of liquid myrhh, half as much sweet-smelling cinnamon(two hundred and fifty shekels), two hundred and fifty shekels of sweet-smelling cane, five hundred shekels of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil. And you shall make from these a holy anointing oil, an ointment compounded according to the art of the perfumer. It shall be a holy anointing oil(NKJV).

Now lets see what each ingredient represents.
MYRRH: Myrrh speaks of the ability to suffer long. It was myrrh that was used to embalm bodies. As part of your preparation, pray for the spirit of endurance and resilience. Marriage and even life in general is not always a bed of roses. There are sweet moments and tough times. Pray that God would grant you the ability to endure. If you pass this test, you will do well in marriage.

1 Peter 3:6
As Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not AFRAID WITH ANY TERROR(NKJV)

Did you see that? Fear is what you must conquer.

SWEET SMELLING CINNAMON: This talks about the joy of the Lord, which is our strength(Nehemiah 8:10). Many women suffer from depression and moods swings. Even though psychologist say that moods swings are a normal part of a woman’s life, some are in extremes and induced by demons. Pray for the spirit of joy into your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to invade your innermost being with Joy so that anxiety, worry, and murmurings will be out of your life.

SWEET SMELLING CANE: This talks about spiritual influence. Every woman is endowed with influence. But some of them cannot manage the gift of influence well and so rather than promoting good, they promote evil. Ask for wisdom and grace to manage this gift of influence.

CASSIA: Cassia speaks of incorruptibility. The Bible says evil communication corrupts good manners(1Cor 15:33). Therefore, you should pray for discernment to select friends and the strength to stand against ungodly influence. Eve shouldn’t have listened to the counsel of the serpent. It was devilish. But she was not smart. As a woman, you must beware of who speaks into your life. Ask for grace to discern between voices.

OLIVE OIL: Olive oil speaks of the anointing. Women also need the anointing. You must desire to be used of God. Pray until you are anointed for ministry. Ask God to saturate you in the anointing.
These are not the only prayers you must pray. As you start with these, the Holy Spirit, will give you further topics. But there is one prophetic act that has just dropped into my spirit. The Bible says in

Proverbs 14:1
The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands(NKJV).

So this is how I want you to pray. Clasp your two palms together and surrender them to God. Declare that you receive wisdom to build your own house and not to pull it down. We will look at other ways both men and women can prepare for marriage next week. Stay blessed.
