Teaching Tuesday

We are still looking at the connecting
systems of the believer. Today we want to examine the importance of corporate
Individually and corporately.
Corporate gatherings have a greater impact
than individual fellowship times
Deuteronomy 32:30
“How should one chase a
thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them,
and the LORD had shut them up?”
Looking at this scripture, you realise
that combined output of our efforts is greater than our individual efforts. One
can chase only a thousand but when we join forces with another person, we don’t
chase two thousand but ten thousand.

This means there will be 8000 extra to
share and each will end up with 4000 more.
There is a synergy when we join forces.
Synergy is the combined power of a group of things when they are working
together which is greater than the total power achieved by each working
The reason for this is because God Himself
is pulled into the equation by our coming together.
Matthew 18:20
“For where two or three are
gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
When we come together, He is pulled into
the equation and therefore the combined effect is exponential. We must grow in
both our private, individual relationship with God and the corporate
relationship with one another and God.

We should avoid isolating ourselves from
the believers gatherings. It is not only unwise but also dangerous.

There is more power, anointing, resources
in a corporate gathering than your private meetings with the Lord.
When we all gather,
rivers of living waters are flowing from everybody’s belly and it therefore
becomes a flood of His presence(John 7:37).
A table brings people together. When we
gather, the picture is one of a family at the table.
Christian gatherings and fellowship is
around the table of the Lord. The table speaks of fellowship and relationship.

One picture of a gathering around a table
in the old testament was the table of shewbread in the Tabernacle ( Ex
. The
table of shewbread was in the Holy place. It had twelve loaves of bread
representing the twelve tribes of Israel.
The twelve loaves of
bread was replaced every seven days. It was supposed to be eaten by the
priests. It was holy bread. So there was a gathering of priests around the
Table of shewbread every seven days.

That is just like the gathering of
believers in the New Testament.  Indeed
we are also spiritual priests
(1 Pet 2:9)

Spiritually speaking, the table symbolises
the oneness we are to attain as a Body and it also symbolizes our meetings
literally. The Bible talks about both the unity of the spirit among believers
and the gathering of the believers physically to share fellowship.
READ Phil 2:1-4, Eph 4:1-3. They are all
talking about the fact that we must become one in the unity of the faith and of
the spirit

Apart from that, we must also demonstrate
that spiritual relationship by our physical gatherings.
 READ Acts 4:32-37.
1. The
Revelation of the Lord.
The believer grows by his subjective
revelation of the Lord Jesus. But in a believers gathering, there is a greater
revelation of our Lord Jesus as the bread in due season for His people.
The Lord loves table meetings
Luke 24:30
“And it came to pass, as he sat
at food with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to
Luke 24:31
“And their eyes were opened, and
they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.”
The above scripture is about the encounter
two disciples had with the risen Lord at Emmaus. Their eyes were opened as they
sat at table with the Lord. When believers gather, He shows Himself and
dispenses Himself into them in the form of the bread that is broken (spirit
inspired teachings).
Mark 16:14
“Afterward he appeared unto the
eleven as they sat at food, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness
of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was
Here too we see that the Lord appeared to
them as they sat at the table.
loves the table meetings of the believers.
Another thing that happens at the
believers gathering is refreshment. It is called washing of feet
(John 13:14, 1 Cor 16:18, Acts 27:3, 2 Tim 1:16, Philemon vs 7,
Acts 21:4).
Washing of feet simply means refreshment.
It was a practice in Jesus days where visitors feet were washed by the servants
of the host because it was desert and their feet would have accumulated dust
from the trekking.

Jesus used that to tell us how we must
often refresh one another.
When we meet as believers, there is
encouragement, exhortation, empathy. We pray for one another, we share one
another’s burdens etc. All this falls under washing of feet.
When we gather as believers, the blood of
Jesus is activated to speak for us and cleanse us.
1 John 1:7
“But if we walk in the light, as
he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus
Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
This is not referring to when the Blood
washed us(Rev 1:5-6), but it is referring to a continuous cleansing which takes
places literally when we gather as believers.
Conclusion: I will end here and
continue next  week with other things
that happen in the believers gathering.
Stay tuned. Blessings.
